How does a courthouse marriage work? What is the process like? Do people dress up for it?

My fiance and I are planning to get married, and don't have much money. We have been contemplating a courthouse marriage, and were wondering what all takes place, how it works, etc. Do people typically wear a nice suit and dress? Street clothes? Do you need to bring a witness? Do people bring in a pastor or priest? I've seen it on television before, but was wondering how it all goes down in real life. Has anyone been through this? What was it like? How does a courthouse marriage work? What is the process like? Do people dress up for it?
Go online and see what the court house offers. At ours it has video of the service. It looks and is professional. A class act. You can even has a option to show the ceremony live streaming for your out of town guests. You dress up in your best duds. You don't need a witness because they will supply one. They have an official to marry you.

Congratulations on your loving bond together. May it last forever. How does a courthouse marriage work? What is the process like? Do people dress up for it?
well there is not much to it. from what i understand there are a couple of choices. you have the walk in sign and DONE. or you can have a 5minute wedding which is more i do yes i do too kind of thing. you can wear something nice. but i would keep it more casual. you may be in line so its not to formal. have you considered having your priest or pastor come to your home, or a family members home. they really dont charge much and it would feel more personal i think. good luck to you and congrats..
Do people typically wear a nice suit and dress? Some dress up and some just go in jeans. It depends on you and your spouse.

Do you need to bring a witness? Yes you do.

Do people bring in a pastor or priest? No provided by the courts.

You need to go in and file for your marriage license first and then get the next available schedule to make your appointment to go in and say your I Do's.

yes u need 2 witness and what u wear depends on what u want to wear. even if don't have much money u can have a nice wedding, it's ur wedding day. if u want a dress, bouquet, and suit, go for it. if u want jeans and t-shirts go for it. the judge marries u at the courthouse and it's over. but u can have ur family there and make it a nice ceremony. u can throw ur bouquet outside after u sign the papers and have a dinner and celebrate. it all depends on what u 2 want. but u make it as simple of signing and going home in jeans, or being dressed nice and having a nice celebration. congratulations!!!! haven't been through that. that's what i'm happy w but my bf of 10 yrs wants the big expensive wedding and we're paying for it so we need to save:(
You wear the sort of clothes you would wear to church, a suit and a nice dress. The judge performs the ceremony so you do not bring a minister or priest. You will need a witness. The bride can carry flowers and the groom can have a boutonniere. These ceremonies are very nice and very affordable.
I was married in the court house and I just dressed up in regular clothes and yes you need to have witnesses about two. You do not need a priest. I was married in a church eventually but it is not bad getting married at a court house. Good Luck to you both...
In our state, the judge marries you, and some folks dress in full bridal attire and some wear jeans. Congratulations. If the judge is not in, most of the time the chief clerk can marry you.
I've had 2 daughters get married at the courthouse and both were very different! The reason they chose the courthouse is because of a beautiful bell tower they both loved on the property.

Daughter #1 got married on New Year's Day (courthouse was closed), with her own pastor. It was a formal wedding that we didn't have to pay for the location because our tax money pays for it. We even had the groom %26amp; best man, the bridesmaid, the maid of honor and then the bride arrive in separate Ford trucks: Ranger, F-150, F-250 %26amp; F-350. Everyone stood for the ceremony, as there were only a few park benches available. Reception was held at church.

5 Months later, Daughter #2 calls me and asked what I was doing, then told me she had just gotten married at the same courthouse! They were married by the court clerk in the office (my daughter got overheated and nearly fainted). She wore her jeans and he wore his shorts and flipflops.

So guess which one is still married? Yep, #2!

Nothing was said about a witness. I know #2 didn't take anyone else with them.
