How does legalizing Gay Marriage pose a threat to religious liberties? What are the principal concerns?

How do supporters of same-sex marriage respond? How does legalizing Gay Marriage pose a threat to religious liberties? What are the principal concerns?
It doesn't.

';The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretence, infringed.'' - James Madison (Original wording of the First Amendment; Annals of Congress 434 (June 8, 1789).)

It is this overwhelming seriousness about religion that seems to be one of the hallmarks of the fundamentalist. He is concerned not only with his own conformity to doctrine, but the conformity of the rest of society to it, too. Many fundamentalists will not hesitate to intervene in the political process to ensure that society is forced to conform to the behaviors their world view requires, if not accept that world view. The belief that they are right, without any question, justifies, in their own minds, taking upon themselves the right to impose their point of view, by force if neccessary. How does legalizing Gay Marriage pose a threat to religious liberties? What are the principal concerns?
People who say that it will threaten religious liberties are implying that their place of worship may be forced to perform same-sex marriages, regardless of whether they approve of it or not.

The problem with this is that not only is that direct violation of the separation of church and state, but not a single bill allowing gay marriage that has been proposed or passed has in any way actually forced places of worship to do this.

In essence: their argument is one heaping plate of fail.
Because that means gay couples would be able to do things like (GASP!) ... file a joint 1040 tax form in April! It would be anarchy, I tell ya, pure anarchy!

Seriously though, I don't understand where Christians get this delusion that their religion gets to define legal marriage status. Are these people really oblivious to the fact that there are already millions of married non-Christian couples in the country? A church is hardly the only place where you can hold a legally-binding wedding. Heck you can get married in Las Vegas in a drive-thru, or by an Elvis impersonator. So much for the ';sanctity';.

Nor do I understand the ';call it something else';. Would a ';marriage'; and ';union'; legally be the same exact thing as far as federal and state rights/laws go? If so, then why should the government use two different terms for the same exact thing? If they're not equal, then it's discriminatory.
NOT legalizing it poses a threat to religious and civil liberties

EDIT* Correction, not legalizing it or making it against thelaw where it was once allowed ( California) certainly poses more than a threat to civil liberties, it negates them for a specific group.
Its nonsense to say a gay marriage in a household miles away somehow degrades the sacredness of your straight marriage.

Linda: They don't want to force your church to do it, they just want the government to recognize it.
I don't understand what's wrong with it, just because a person is gay dont' make them bad people. their is probably more good gay people out in the world than heteros so wats the problem as long as a person has good morals and values and treat people with respect it's okay, and supposedly god is suppose to love us all anyway.
It isn't a threat to America as a whole. It only threatens the minds of the overly religious.
No threats, just bigotry. Remember we used to have interracial marriages banned because of the ';sanctity of marriage'; crap.
it does nothing to religious liberty.

it's mere dogma.
It basicly walks over gods laws of marriage.
i find it totally ok for gays to get married what they do behind closed doors does not bother me at all so i dont care and plus im american and believe in freedom not a stupid conservative commi
It is no threat, its just bigotry.
It doesn't. The end.
Please, be understanding of my response. No hate is invoked at all.

1. It is forbidden in our texts (duh). I for one think that divorce and adultery should also be forbidden. There's much more to my explanation, but we can save that for another day.

2. Historically the nations that allowed homosexual unions (not marriages per se) either allowed sexual relations with children at the time, or did later on. While we know presently that pedophilia is immoral, who knows if that will change? There are a large amount of people who are actually pushing for legalization of pedophilia. They're point? That it's violating a child's liberties if they want to have sex with an adult. Even Wikipedia's article about homosexual marriage lists pedophilia unions alongside the homosexual unions.

3. I notice that there is some ignorance with the issue on both ends. The Bible doesn't specifically state that gays are evil or sinful. But it does paint a picture of how societies are corrupt and evil when homosexuality becomes quite popular. Another indicator is high divorce rates, adulterous societies, and murderous societies. Read the examples in the books of Judges sometimes. So in other words, it's not gays who are the problem. It's the downfall of society that's the issue. Homosexuality isn't a cause of evil, it's the result of a corrupted society (according to the Bible). So basically when the homosexual marriage issue comes up, Christians should actually be looking at how they can improve themselves and their communities, not focus all of their time stopping gay marriages.

There isn't much of a threat to our religious liberties. But the above points are of concern. Outside of R%26amp;S I have had a decent amount of gay friends. They don't agree with me usually, but they get along with me just fine. They all know that I would show up at their weddings too.
I don't care if they marry. If gay marriage becomes legalize and that is so totally against God's law; then we should all rejoice. The more signs of times come into fruition; the closer we get to the Apocalypse. But I am sorry for the gays (the bible mentions them as *self abusers*), because nobody wants another fellow human to end up in the Abyss where there are eternal flames.
Marriage was established form a statement from God that ';the two shall be one flesh' in Genesis regarding a man and a woman

Marraige is a mere hint of something greater and more permanent in heaven. It is a earthly and temporary parable of permanence of the ultimate marriage between Jesus and the bride of Jesus which is the church. The hint which God gave which points to the fulfillment in heaven is His design and should not be messed with.

Now if you want to talk about domestic partnership thats a different issue and I would recommend those not even be limited to sexual relationships as many close relationships such as between two sisters living together for decades warrent being recognized as family. Setting aside an object lesson of God for a preference of man is a threat to ones eternal salvation.
By allowing this to go forward, we are just digging a deeper hole for our nation to attempt to crawl out of. Which, since God is allowing us to dig our own hole, don't think it will stop. We, as a nation, have broken covenant with God, which means until we repent, and turn back, there will be NO economic recovery, no matter how much money they throw at it.Don't think so? Read your Bible, Jeremiah 11:1-11; tells us where this immoral nation is heading. That, is why Christians are against the gay agenda. They will destroy this nation, from the inside out! God will allow our enemies to take us over, I do believe both Russia, and China kill homosexuals. God will let our enemies clean our own house, but there will be a very heavy price to bear through out this all. Too bad the gays won't receive the help that is available from England, where, for over 20 years they have been ';curing'; homosexuals , who want to be set free. Hmmm!!
MAARRIIIAAAGGGEE CAMMMME FROM RELIGION! THATS WHY WE DON WANT GAY PEOPLE TO MARRY. CALL IT A UNION. BESIDES ITS UNNATURAL
Romans 1:18-32. %26lt;')))%26gt;%26lt;
it diminishes the christian view of marriage...
It would change peoples perspective and would slowly start spreding?
Why does the gay community want to force the church to marry them?
It is against my holy word.
