How come people against gay marriage are told to be tolerant of others beliefs?

yet those people who are for gay marriage are completely intolerant of apposing viewpoints? How come people against gay marriage are told to be tolerant of others beliefs?
Its the new thing...being politically correct. In order to be politically correct, you have to be COMPLETELY MORALLY BANKRUPT!!! The only people that don't benefit from political correctness are people who have morals and traditional family values!

It is really no surprise, satan has completely deceived the masses! How come people against gay marriage are told to be tolerant of others beliefs?
I think they just don't understand that marriage is a religious rite, not a civil right, and that by legally imposing alternate definitions of marriage in an attempt at social engineering, they're attacking specific religions.

That's religious intollerance.

Not that the other side is doing any better in trying to get specific legal privileges for persons who undertake the marriage rite under thier religous definitions, but not others. (Yes, there are religious that will happily marry same-sex couples - they may be wierd hippy religions, but they're still religions).

That's in that specific case. More broadly, it's just the stranglehold that political correctness has on public dicourse.
People that are for gay marriage believe that the people who are against it are taking their rights away.

Of course you can't take something away they never had.

Besides that they think it is the worse form of discrimination, for some reason I don't recall them being sprayed with fire hoses, being attacked by police dogs, enslaved, or suffering through segregation. But to hear them talk they are the most oppressed people to ever live.
And are those people pushing a law to ban you from saying such things?

No, they just call you names

That is tolerance...not trying to make illegal while still not thinking it is a good thing

As opposed to the anti-gay side which is raping the Constitution, violating law, and betraying American values and trying to make laws to force everyone to live by their own private religious rules and demanding slave like obedience

THAT is intolerance...not liking something and trying pass laws to mandate your point of view as only one allowed.

B.Kevork%26gt; Actually that is incorrect. Marriage was originally a secular institution and Courts have already ruled that marriage is a basic civil right and that basic civil rights are not something we can vote on. When we mention the courts we are talking the LEGAL standing of marriage as defined by the State not the silly ceremonies and chicken bones that religions call it.

(If they can say I am going to hell all day, every day it would intolerant to deny me the right to call them silly)
Understand the concept of individual choice: I get to choose what is right for me and you get to choose what is right for you.

Those intolerant of gay marriage are trying to choose for OTHERS, not themselves. I could care less what you think I should do with my life, I, and only I, get to choose. So yes, I am profoundly intolerant of your interfering in my life. Go live your life and I will live mine.
First of all there is nothing normal about gay marriage therefore nothing to be intolerant about. If we were talking about abuse of gays or denying them jobs etc that would be one thing but accepting that two men having sex together and being married is somehow normal is absurd or having to bow down to this ideology is quite a different thing especially when you are asking me to put my clothes on and make special trip to the voting poles to vote for it when it is against everything godly moral, natural law and common sense and I do not agree with, that is quite another. Labling me if I appose it will not get me to move any faster toward the poles especially when you don't even respect my rights to free speech. The day that I casts a vote for gay marriage is the day that I loose my rights to freedom of speech to appose it if I so choose later on because it has become evident with the Ms California scandal that gays will never respect my constitutional right to speak against it if they are in a position of power. If it doesn't need my vote then knock yourself out live your life however you please, get married do whatever but gay marriage on a political level will never have my blessing nor my participation or silence.
I am not for gay marriage the people who are most of them are gay or lesbians California has a domestic partnership law that gives them the same rights as marriage partners But I guess they are determined to have marriage so they are not going to be tolerant of any one opposed to it. All states should have a domestic partnership law. First they wanted that and now they are determined to have marriage which is not meant to be marriage has always been man and woman and should stay that way.
Probably because you are (or might be) imposing your p.o.v on others. Gay people aren't telling you not to enter into a heterosexual marriage, so why don't people mind their own business and let people live their lives.

Honestly, the amount of interest that some people seem to show in other people's bedroom habits never ceases to amaze me!!!

Halcon
Why can't you be more tolerate of our intolerance of your intolerance?

If you don't like gay marriages, don't have one. There's a big difference between that position and saying that you shouldn't have access to the legal status you subsidize for others called marriage.
No one can force you to accept it in your heart but you should not try to make laws making it illegal. There was a time when interracial marriages were illegal too and, to this date, there are still people who find it wrong. Does that mean there should be laws in place against it? It's the attempts to put laws on personal rights that gets people angry, not the difference of opinion.
You're being a hypocrite if you bash gay marriage and gays' beliefs. Everybody has a right on these kinds of things. People often judge them badly for it because they're different. People ALWAYS bash the different ones; those who are deviants, who stray away from what we call the standard norms of society.

Gays don't exactly help it that they're that way; they just are. They don't ask for it at all. It just comes. Love is something you cannot control; the heart can choose anyone to love, regardless of age, face, personality, race or even gender. ';The heart has reason that reason itself cannot understand.'; (by Blaise Pascal) The way love works is definitely beyond our comprehension.

The problem in society is that people who are different are instantly considered outcasts because they're not being ';right.'; Or are they?

We aren't even sure if the right we believe is really the right ';right';! I'm not saying gay marriages are right, we aren't even sure, but it's okay, considering human rights!

Everybody has something weird, unique and different (from what's standard) about them. I've said this a lot of times already and people never change. The thing is, people have to hide these unique traits because they're afraid of being judged and condemned in society! If only people were more accepting and respectful of things, then there wouldn't even be a need to hide them! I still don't get why people have this insatiable need to conform to the standard norms; it's like everybody wants to be the same. It's not exactly a good thing, so..yeah, you get my point.

Bottom line here is that people gotta learn to respect one another. In plain terms, it's human rights and nobody is in any position to say that human rights is stupid. If that is so, then murder should be considered okay, since these murderers have the ';right'; to kill whenever and whoever they want and then we'd be all dead by now. That's out of question, but just an example anyway.

Oh yeah and I forgot to say this. This is probably the most important answer I could give to your question.

You said: ';How come people against gay marriage are told to be tolerant of others beliefs yet those people who are for gay marriage are completely intolerant of opposing viewpoints?';

Very easy question.

Human beings, people, are fated and destined to be in conflict with one another, all the time. They're fated to always have beliefs contrary to the other. You can't please everybody, and that IS a fact of life. People are all different; nobody is the same, and in turn, not all people will agree with everybody. It's normal.
All of this are being ignorant, and hate! God never taught us to ';HATE';. God created us equal, no one are better then other.

If people who can not tolerate others, she go back and read the Bible, as Bible teaching is about love.

Gay children are part of straight parents... They have normal family like everyone else.

So think gay children can change straight lifestyle are so wrong..

If you teach your children right and wrong without hatred... they grow up to be sucessful parents themselves!!
Because they expect other people to accept their beliefs, but they're not willing to return the favor of anyone else's. They think the entire world revolves around them, and anyone who disagrees doesn't matter.
Don't find that to be true at all. Practice tolerance in general. If I were gay and could not marry, I'd protest under ';no taxation without representation.'; Who gives a crap about who marries who? Doesn't affect my or anyone else's life.
because they're stuck in the past and resisting an inevitable change

if you don't like gay marriages, don't get one. They will have no effect on your life whatsoever and they are people just like anyone else. Love is love is love, man.
It's the same as Christians who preach love and practice hate.

It's especially easy when you can call the other person a name to try to mask your intolerance as taking a moral high ground.

We all have the ability to be hypocrites.
Because all these people are speaking out against gay marriage.

Not a single homosexual is speaking out against straight marriage.

It's pretty obvious who the intolerant ones are.
Why do you think that everyone that disagrees with you/gay marriage folk are intolerant ? You see...You are liberal minded in the modern sense. Your way is the only way....You won`t get far with that.
Nobody should be intolerant. However, being gay isn't a choice, Hating gays IS a choice. The fringe on both sides of the gay marriage question have become obnoxious.
I like tolerance all around. I'm fine with people who don't support gay marriage - my mother falls into that crowd. I think that crowd will age and be replaced by another generation soon.
Keep your thoughts in your head and don't be nosy about their lives. If you can't do that then you don't deserve to oppose gay marriage.
You're right. I'm completely intolerant of those who want to deny their fellow Americans their God-given Constitutional rights.
So basically you're saying that someone isn't tolerant unless they're tolerant of intolerance. Nice.
I'm for gay marriage and I tolerate anti-gay people; however, i do not tolerate bigots
People against gay marriage are denying people of rights, people who oppose the people against gay marriage aren't... they are fighting for them.
They're hypocrites.

Calling someone intolerant is by its very nature, an act of intolerance.
I've noticed that the tolerant are always intolerant of intolerant people.

Oh the irony.
RIGHT

and the ones who wanted equal rights for blacks told others to be more tolerant BECAUSE THEY WERE RIGHT

SAME THING IS HAPPENING NOW
That's like the bully beating up EVERY kid in the lunchroom.... and when somebody stands up to the bully.... The bully Cries that he's getting picked on..... LOL
I don't really care who gets married to who. Go ahead and approve intraspecies marriages for all I care.
So, you're asking...

why do people who promote tolerance oppose intolerance?

really? you can't figure that one out?
